Recurring commission,
explained with real numbers.
Get paid every time a customer you referred pays, not just the first time. At UtilitySEO that is 50% of every payment for up to 12 months.
Monthly payouts · No minimum · Refunds handled fairly
“Cheaper than what I was using and far easier to get around. I had never seen keyword data laid out so visually before, the topic clusters especially, which made the whole thing easy to understand.”
What recurring commission means
With a one-off commission you are paid once, when someone buys. With recurring commission you are paid again each time the customer renews. For subscription software that usually means every month.
There are two common versions. Lifetime recurring pays a share for as long as the customer stays, usually at a lower rate. Time-limited recurring pays a larger share for a fixed window. UtilitySEO uses the second kind: 50% of every payment for up to 12 months from the customer's first payment.
Month by month, using our prices
Entrepreneur monthly costs £48, so each payment earns you £24.
- After 1 month: £24
- After 3 months: £72
- After 6 months: £144
- After 12 months: £288, and the window closes
Enterprise monthly costs £149, so each payment earns you £74.50. That is £894 if the customer stays for the full 12 months.
These numbers are the arithmetic of our prices, not a promise. If a customer cancels, your earnings from them stop with their payments.
Yearly plans
A yearly plan is paid up front, but your share is spread across the year. Entrepreneur yearly is £400, so your half is £200, paid as a twelfth each month: about £16.67 a month. Enterprise yearly is £1,490, so your half is £745, about £62.08 a month. You earn for the months that fall inside your 12-month window, and a renewal counts as a new payment.
How it builds
Because each customer earns for up to a year, the customers you refer in different months overlap. Someone you refer in March is still earning when someone you refer in June makes their first payment. That is why recurring commission tends to build steadily rather than arrive in one lump.
It also works the other way. If people cancel, the payments stop. So recurring commission rewards recommending something to people who will actually use it, which is the only kind of recommendation worth making.
Refunds and disputes
If a payment is refunded, it does not earn. If it was already paid out, the amount comes off your next payout. A dispute the customer wins counts the same as a refund. Your payout never goes below zero; anything left over carries to the next month.
What to look for in any recurring programme
Check the share, the length of the window, the payout schedule and any minimum, and how refunds are handled. Then ask whether you would recommend the product without the commission. If a product does not keep its customers, the recurring part is worth very little.
